Chaffinch (Tjiftjaf): common bird in Holland, migrating south in winter. Singing its own name, (“onomatopoeia”). Difficult seeing difference between Chaffinch (Tjiftjaf) and Willow Warbler (Fitis). In Holland this problem is cleverly solved by giving them both the same name “Fietjaf”.

Willow Warbler (Fitis): common bird in Holland, migrating south in winter. Active singer, melody is slightly sad going downwards: “Vandaag is het mooi weer maar morgen kan het weer regenen.” (“today it’s nice wheather but tomorrow it may be raining again”). Rather difficult to see the difference between Willow Warbler and Chaffinch. In Holland this problem solved by using a shared species name “Fietjaf”.

Whitethroat (Grasmus); Common in Holland, relatively active and almost continuously agile, moving and singing in his territory, yet rather shy and difficult photographing.

Lesser Whitehroat (Braamsluiper): Less common in Holland, typical soft rattling sound.

Sardinian Warbler

Sedge Warbler: Common in Holland, periodically hip hopping and beautifully singing in his territory, not very shy.

Tristan’s Warbler: rare bird, photographed in Atlas mountains Morocco. Only a few seconds visible, one good photograph ever.

Great Reed Warbler: rather rare band shy bird, photographed in Holland na Poland.

Fan-tailed Warbler: common in mediterranean countries. Always active. One man often has several females.

Scrub Warbler (Maquiszanger): Rare. Photographed in Israel ans Algarvve, mostly in scrub in wadi’s.
